TRACK HISTORY
The Regina Auto Racing Club held its first race on May 19, 1949 at a
tight high banked quarter mile dirt track just north of White City. The
race cars of the day were from the 1930’s and had very little speed
modifications and lacked in safety equipment like roll bars. The Club
later moved to a new dirt track in the 50’s located near Pilot Butte.
Another move in the 60’s took the club to a new ¼ mile dirt track north
of IPSCO. Cars from the 40’s and 50’s were raced without front fenders
and hoods. This earned them the nickname "Sherman Tank".
The RARC moved to its new
and present location in the late 60’s. The track layout though was
different this time. The two long straight-aways with tight high banked
corners was 1/3 of a mile long and in 1970 was covered with asphalt. The
track was repaved again in 1985. Kings Park Speedway has since earned
the reputation as the most challenging track in Western Canada.
The years since have seen many changes and ever increasing speeds.
Street Stocks were the first class, Super Stocks were added in 1973 and
then Mini Stocks in 1975. The Claimer car was introduced as the only
class in 1979. Street Stocks were added in 1983 and Super Stocks again
in 1985. The Street Stocks underwent a name change in the early ’90 and
became the Modified Stock class. The Mini Mod’s, today known as the
Saskatchewan Pro IV Association was originally introduced in the late
‘80’s. The Sportsman division was introduced in 1996 and today is
sanctioned with the national CASCAR association. The Street Truck class
was added in 1997 along with the resurrection of the basic Street Stock
class again. In 1998, the Mini Stock class was re-introduced. The
classes are ever evolving in an effort to meet the needs of both our
drivers and our fans.
Many out of town cars have come to race at invitational's, including the
Saskatchewan Racing Series, the NASCAR Can Am Series, the Western Speed
Association, IMCA, CASCAR, Regina/Saskatoon Budweiser Challenge Series,
Pro IV Association, Baby Grands, Big Rigs, Super Trucks and the Western
Racing League.
The Regina Auto Racing Club
has a rich history in members, volunteers, sponsors and competition. We
wish it every success in the years to come!
